Phase 4:

Bottlenose dolphin interaction with artisanal fishing

In order to achieve an adequate management of the interactions between the bottlenose dolphin and the fishing sector, at the Azul Marino Foundation we continue to collaborate with the ANSE Association to carry out the project:

Evaluation of interactions between bottlenose dolphins and southern and southeastern fisheries in marine protected areas for integrated management (INDELPESUR), with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition through the Pleamar Program, co-financed by the European Maritime Fund and Fishing.

The project methodology consists of:

  • Deployment of acoustic detectors to record the presence of
  • Navigation campaigns implementing linear transect methodology in the study
  • Accompanying campaigns for artisanal
  • Shipments in purse

Close collaboration with fishermen is key to understanding interactions between bottlenose dolphins and nets. In recognition of this, we have engaged the cooperation and assistance of fishermen from Cabo de Palos, Adra and Caleta de Vélez.
